Lights On

Beginnings.

Every moment is a beginning, a chance to start again. That is why the present is so potent and where our power lies.

The place is here, the time is now.

Begin.

Upon the first full moon of the Witches' New Year, my coven gathered for ritual. We solidified our energy as a group and set individual intentions for the changes we want to manifest in our lives through the next twelve months.

My intention: To see myself and dare to be seen/heard.

In medias res...

desire, revisited.. (2)

What is my most basic desire?

To be healthy and happy.

Doesn’t everyone want to be healthy and happy?

What does it mean to be healthy?

Quest(ion)s of the Spirit

Autumn - my favorite season! - quietly approaches and, though it starts the waning phase of the year, now somehow feels like a rebirthing time. A chance to recoup and regroup in order to create / build / awaken some.. creature.. that's been waiting, waiting.. and can wait no longer.

And so during my bone collecting today, I stumbled upon some musings I had written at the beginning of this year that co-incidentally anticipated the "big issue" (or one of them, at least) I'm currently dealing with...

Hija de La Luna

I have always been a child of Moon - fascinated / mesmerized / enchanted by her. She is the water-mover, and also the great Sun-fire mirror.

Water & Fire, "feminine" and "masculine"; they swirl deep within me (my astrological chart is almost all Water and Fire signs) and yet they are the most elusive. I continually lose/forget myself and must keep circling back, returning to zero, re-visualizing the map.

Mnemosyne helps by reminding me of my dream of Ch'ang-O, the Chinese goddess who lives on the moon.

'Wild Womyn Rising'

A priestess is an agent of Spirit/Goddess/God.
She is "in touch"
with the outer and inner worlds,
the seen and unseen.
She is especially in tune with
her Intuition; the Moon lights her path.
She is a healer, teacher, facilitator.
She holds space and builds bridges
in order for communication and transformation to occur.
She listens.
She is creative, (com)passionate, aware.
She is fully embodied and stands firmly in her power.
She is dedicated to a life of
conscious intention, growth, relationship, and community.
She is not afraid of "the dark" or her own shadow,
but also knows when and how to protect
herself and those she loves.
She is wise, yet continues to explore and learn.
She inspires and illuminates.

mirrors, movements, maps

"You're afraid of what you might be, so you can't be anything at all."

This, from Marilyn French's 1977 novel The Women's Room, which I finished reading just a few days ago. Now this isn't a book review, so I won't go into an in-depth discussion of the text itself. I will say that it was a wonderful read and invaluable for anyone interested/involved in "women's studies."

I wonder as I wander

5.26.2010

Does the Universe always speak in a language you understand? Otherwise, how would you get the message? Are there intended messages, or just created meanings? Is the world really chaos and randomness, out of which we only perceive order? Do we just make it up as we go along--this "reality"? Are we getting closer to or moving further away from God? I'm convinced we will never fully understand--as a couple of really smart witches like to say, we're like ants trying to understand a computer.

5.30.2010

The Universe--and my own Self--has been telling me to dance, so I've finally heeded the call and signed up for two dance workshop series, both of which happen to be just for women. I imagine Maman Brigitte must be smiling secretly to herself. I'm hoping that this conscious movement and cultivation of fluidity in body will open me up in other ways...

Adventures in Consciousness & Creativity

When you ask the Universe for a revelation, be prepared to receive it - maybe even several!

On Monday I attended a talk/workshop that was part of a week-long Festival of Meditation & Spirituality. It was a joint presentation: Adventures in Consciousness and Creativity & the Art of Self-Discovery. After sharing the story of his own journey and spiritual wanderings, the first speaker delved into the subject of consciousness with the assertion that answering the question "Who am I?" is inextricably linked to finding one's purpose, meaning. This gave me pause...

We Are Family

"What we are trying to suggest is that the solution for a cluttered, frustrated existence is not merely in moving to the country and attempting to practise 'the simple life.' The solution is in an attitude towards human experience which makes simple physical and economic arrangements almost a moral and esthetic necessity. It is the larger purpose in life which gives to its lesser enterprises--the obtaining of food, shelter and clothing--their essential harmony and balance. So often people dream of an ideal life "in community," forgetting that a "community" is not an end in itself, but a frame for higher qualities--the qualities of the mind and the heart. Making a community is not a magic formula for happiness and good; making a community is the result of the happiness and the good which people already possess in principle, and the community, whether of one family or several, is the infinitely variable expression of the excellences of human beings, and not their cause...."

-quoted in Henry Miller's
Big Sur and The Oranges of Hieronymus Bosch

This little chunk of words and notions has been roaming around in my head ever since I read it a few days ago. And so I feel an urge to engage and deconstruct..

Spiral to Center

It's been a while. Almost feels like starting over... Hello!

In the midst of work & play at the botanical garden, various wanderings & wonderings, and a recent spell of acute reclusiveness, I've been thinking a lot about transformation and identity. The incessant "Who am I, and who do I want to be?" Of course, this is the appropriate age for such questing and I have plenty of time to figure it all out, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating..
